How to use lithium battery correctly? How to extending lithium batteries life?

With the continuous development of science and technology, smart electronic products and power tools are everywhere around us, so we must pay attention to the problems of lithium batteries life and charging cycle. Battery development is a continuous progress, at present, most products will use lithium batteries, do you really know the correct use of lithium batteries and how to extending lithium battery life?

First, the correct use of lithium batteries

  1. Discharge termination voltage
The lithium-ion battery has a rated voltage of 3.7V and a termination discharge voltage of 2.5-2.75V. The battery’ s end-of-discharge voltage should not be lower than 2.5. Continued discharge below the end-of-discharge voltage is called overdischarge. Overdischarge will shorten the lithium batteries life, and in severe cases will cause battery failure. When the battery is not in use, charge the battery to 20% of its capacity, and then store it in a moisture-proof package. Check the voltage once every 3 to 6 months and charge it to ensure that the battery voltage is within the safe voltage range (above 3V).
  2. Discharge current
Lithium-ion batteries are not suitable for high-current discharge. When excessive current is discharged, a higher temperature will be generated inside the battery, which will consume energy and reduce the discharge time. Therefore, the maximum discharge current given in the product characteristics table cannot be exceeded during use.
  3. Discharge temperature
The discharge curve is different at different temperatures. At different temperatures, the discharge voltage and discharge time of lithium-ion batteries are also different. The battery should be discharged in the temperature range of -20 ° C to + 60 ° C.

Second, how to extend the life of lithium batteries

  1. Remove the battery
Do not leave the battery in the device. Even if the device is turned off, the battery will still have an electronic “leakage” problem, eventually causing the battery to run out.
  2. Unused batteries are not fully charged
Allow the battery to retain only half of its charge for long-term battery performance. Fully charged and stored for a long time will greatly reduce the battery life.
  3. Avoid battery overheating
The battery may become hot after using the product. Do not immediately put the battery into the charger to charge it. This will only heat up the battery. Also, do not expose the battery to direct sunlight, and do not place the battery in a place where it generates high heat.
  4. Don’t leave the battery on the charger for a long time
Many people are used to keeping the battery on the charger for a long time, and do not take the battery out before using it. As mentioned earlier, when the battery is left unused, it should only retain about 50% of its power. Recharge the battery one or two days before use, and remove it immediately after it is fully charged.
  5. Avoid power drops to zeroP
Although the current battery products have protection circuits, the voltage will still drop too low due to long-term discharge. Generally, it is almost impossible for a low-voltage lithium battery to return to its original voltage. Even if there are appropriate equipment and methods to safely restore the voltage to normal levels, they may no longer be able to store electricity.
